AfroHouse w/ Manuel Kanza

  • Fit4Dance 778 Nostrand Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11216 United States (map)

Angola is a style of dance that came after Kuduro. The dance is named after the genre of the music (Afro House music). Afrohouse dance Angola includes 60 percent traditional dance (from a variation of tribal dances) from Angola and 40 percent is Kuduro (a contemporary Angola club dance).

Popularized on television by pioneer Fabio Dance and in Ne-yo’s “Another Love Song” music video, Afrohouse Angola stems from the popular move SANGRA, the foundation of kabetula, kintwene, Kuduro, jaracza, popero, tchianda, gato preto, Abrir, fechar or toque and has expanded to more than 43 moves and continues to grow and gain popularity throughout the continent.

In the workshop, you will start with a full stretch to prepare the body then move to learning the names and technique of Afrohouse Angola steps and eventually combine them with rhythm. Once students gain momentum and the energy is high, the class will finish with an explosive piece of choreography. Don’t miss the chance to learn from the popular Manuel Kanza straight from Angola!!
