New Dance Fitness Studio Opens to Get Central Brooklyn Adults and Kids Moving!
BROOKLYN, NY (Jan. 22, 2016)— Central Brooklyn’s incidence rates of obesity, diabetes and chronic health related issues are among New York City’s highest. Fit4Dance, a new dance fitness studio in the heart of Crown Heights, is hoping to change that.
Elected officials, including Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and 36th district Council member Robert E. Cornegy, Jr. as well as representatives from the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce will attend the ribbon cutting ceremony to inaugurate Fit4Dance’s first dedicated studio on Thursday, February 4th at 6:00 p.m. at 154 Utica Avenue.
“This dream of opening my own fitness studio has been three years in the making,” says owner and dance enthusiast Laci Chisholm who once struggled with her weight. “I was stressed, eating poorly and hated the way I looked and felt.” Next came the doctor’s orders for Chisholm to take medication to control her high blood pressure and cholesterol. That’s when she decided to take control of her health. “Through the power of dance I was able to transform my body and overall well-being,” she said. Today, the Rock Hill, South Carolina native turned New York transplant’s weight and other vitals are well under control without the use of prescriptions.
Chisholm is hoping her health journey will motivate members of Central Brooklyn to use dance as a preventative form of exercise. Weekly studio classes will include 45 to 90 minute sessions of Zumba, Haitian dance, Yoga, and Qoya. “I want to inspire and motivate people to take control of their health and have a blast doing it!,” she says.
Fit4Dance will officially open for service on Saturday, February 6th with a special grand opening event. From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., community members will be treated to free fitness classes, giveaways and special discounts on class packages.
