GirlTrek Kick Off Event

  • Fit4Dance 154 Utica Ave Brooklyn NY 11213 USA (map)

Hey Friends! I'm honored to be an ambassador for an amazing organization called GirlTrek founded by my friends Morgan and Vanessa. We both share the same passion -- to help black women heal.

6 out of 10 of us engage in no leisure-time physical activity. No walks in the parks, no zumba, no nothing. Ever. Research tells us - and I know for myself - that Black women are the least physically active group in the country. As a result, in 2016, Black women are dying at higher rates than ANY OTHER GROUP of women in the country from PREVENTABLE diseases like diabetes and heart disease. 8 out of 10 of us are carrying unhealthy weight that causes these diseases. I used to be one of these statistics!!!

This is not freedom. I invite you to participate in the 2016 GirlTrek Season with Fit4Dance and celebrate our right for Love and Self-Care Now. Just show up we stretch and..we walk! It's FREE!!

Our goal, to walk from Utica Avenue/Eastern Parkway to Franklin Avenue/Eastern Parkway and back in 45-60 minutes. We will support one another along the way! No woman left behind!

We will meet at Fit4Dance Studio located at 154 Utica Avenue (between Prospect Park & St. Marks). Brooklyn, NY 11213 at 8:15am. If you haven't seen the studio yet, it'd be a great time to check it out!  After the walk, we'll return to the studio for a light breakfast.

Wanna know more about GirlTrek?

Who are we?
GirlTrek is a groundbreaking 3-year-old national nonprofit that mobilizes women to live their healthiest, most fulfilled lives through a habit of daily walking. Through grassroots organizing and award-winning social media campaigns, GirlTrek supports thousands of walkers, over 400 neighborhood-based volunteers, and inspires an ever-growing network of 200,000 supporters through social media. GirlTrek's health movement is fueled by active role models, street organizers, authentic partnerships, and a whole lot of hustle!

GirlTrek's Mission:
This is not a fitness organization, this is a campaign for healing. This is not recreation. This is a lifestyle. We walk to heal our bodies, inspire our families, and to reclaim the streets of our neighborhoods. We believe in the discipline and power of walking to transform our lives, enliven our communities, and restore our humanity.

GirlTrek. We walk for healing - in our neighborhoods, local parks, and on beautiful trails.
